jfdo
Hi all, I would like to know whether MAX6675 K-type Thermocouple Temperature Sensor can be directly connected to the Analog discovery? Has anyone tried it? Link: https://www.auscomtech.com.au/product/max6675-k-type-thermocouple-temperature-sensor-0-600-degrees-module-arduino/ Thank you. 0 Fausto
Hello @jfdo. Do you have a legacy Analog Discovery device (https://digilent.com/reference/test-and-measurement/analog-discovery/start) or an Analog Discovery 2 device (https://digilent.com/reference/test-and-measurement/analog-discovery-2/start)? There is no accessory for either Analog Discovery device that would accept a direct connection from that temperature module. You could try connecting the Analog Discovery's programmable power supply pin to the module's VCC pin, for the required voltage supply. The vendor does not provide much information, but if the data output is only on one pin, then connect it to the Analog Discovery's analog input channel. Using WaveForms, you will provide a voltage supply to power the module and acquire voltage data from the temperature module. If the vendor has a formula to convert the voltage data to temperature, then use the Math options in WaveForms for the conversion. Good luck. 0 jfdo
Hi Fausto, Thank you for the reply. I have the Analog Discovery (Black colour) one. The first of Analog Discovery models. MAX 6675 uses SPI communication. The pins are; GND = Connect to system ground. This ground needs to be in common with the MCU. VCC = Connect to 3.0 – 5.5V. Typically connected to MCU operating power. SCK = Serial Clock Input. Connect to any digital pin on MCU. CS = Chip Select. Connect to any digital pin on MCU. SO = Serial Data Output. Connect to any digital pin on MCU. I can do this with a MCU. But interested to use the Analog Discovery as the MCU. Needs to create an instance (object) of MAX6675 to read the temperature values. As such we don't need ADC to temperature conversion metric. Appreciate any input on this. Thank you. Best Wishes. Fernando
0 Fausto
The Analog Discovery cannot create an instance for the MAX6675. I don't have a solution for your request, other than possibly using the ADC. Regards, Fausto
0 attila
Hi @jfdo You could eventually use the Protocol/SPI/Sensor or Script tool, to have script reading the values.
0 jfdo
Thank you Attila! Could you please send me an example to use the Script tool? Thank you. Best Regards
