tnt_terri
I tried setting everything up to do a lab last night when my computer showed the following error (for the Analog Discovery 2): “The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.” Is there a way I can fix this, or is it an issue with the device itself? I have not tried a new USB cable.
0 JColvin
Hi @tnt_terri, It's difficult to say with certainty what the root cause would be at this point in time. As a first pass, I would recommend following the troubleshooting instructions that are available in this post here: Let me know if you have any questions about this. Thanks, JColvin
0 attila
Hi @tnt_terri It could be a cable contact or driver issue. Try using other USB cable, port, computer, try a restart. Look for error detail in Windows Device Manager, "Digilent USB Device" or "USB Serial Converter"/ Properties
0 tnt_terri
@attila I tried a different cord, along with multiple different ports in my laptop. It’s not giving me the malfunction error anymore, but it’s still not recognizing that it’s plugged into my laptop and there aren’t any lights flashing in the device. 0 tnt_terri
@attila update - my laptop recognized that the device was just plugged in, but it keeps “flashing” in and out of recognition and the same error eventually pops up on my screen. My boyfriend plugged it into his PC and it didn’t pop up there either.
0 attila
Hi @tnt_terri Most likely the laptop/port cannot supply enough power to the device. Try using a different port if you have one, a powered USB hub, 5VDC power to the device.
0 tnt_terri
@attila I tried a different cord, along with multiple different ports in my laptop. It’s not giving me the malfunction error anymore, but it’s still not recognizing that it’s plugged into my laptop and there aren’t any lights flashing in the device. My boyfriend built his own PC, so I don’t think it’s a power supply issue.
0 attila
Hi @tnt_terri If the device does not show up in Windows Device Manager at all, no "usb serial converter" or "digilent usb device" or "unknown device" it is probably a hardware issue. For warranty and replacement contact the support.digilent @ ni.com specifying the Date of Purchase, Seller and Purchase Order/ Web order Number. I tried setting everything up to do a lab last night when my computer showed the following error (for the Analog Discovery 2):
“The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.”
Is there a way I can fix this, or is it an issue with the device itself? I have not tried a new USB cable.
