Gigabit ethernet module

Question

Hi everyone!

I have a Nexys 3 board which I have used to implement some designs. Now I am working on a ethernet controller implementation to perform high speed data transfer between a PC and a FPGA (point to point). The Nexys 3 includes a 10/100 PHY IC, but I have to go up to a gigabit PHY to achieve my goals.

Is there any kind of peripheral module with a gigabit PHY that I could use with my Nexys 3?

Thanks in advance (and sorry for my english :))

Hello,

Unfortunately the answer is no. We have no module to be connected to Nexys3 that is able to provide gigabit Ethernet performance. The only high speed interface on Nexys3 is VHDCI and we have no VHDCI module to provide Ethernet.

What you can do is to think on another board. The closest to Nexys3 would be Nexys Video http://www.digilentinc.com/Products/Detail.cfm?NavPath=2,400,1475&Prod=NEXYS-VIDEO

Please read more on chapter 4 Ethernet PHY (page 11 of the reference manual http://www.digilentinc.com/Data/Products/NEXYS-VIDEO/Nexys_Video_RM.pdf

Regards,

Cristian
