JTAG-SMT2-NC Connection Problem

Hi all,

I am having trouble maintaining a steady connection between Vivado 2017.2 and a JTAG-SMT2-NC installed on a custom PCB.

I intermittently get this error in Vivado:

ERROR: [Labtoolstcl 44-513] HW Target shutdown. Closing target: localhost:3121/xilinx_tcf/Digilent/210251A46839

It can occur while my PCB is connected but idle (i.e. not loading a bitstream) or while loading a bitstream. I have also had success loading a bitstream although some bitstreams seem to cause the error more often than others.

Can anyone from Digilent provide a list of issues that might or are known to cause this problem?

I have reached out to a more experience engineer about this forum. They are currently out of the office until 11/13/17 so we may not have a response until next week. I am sorry for the inconvenience.  I would also suggest to reach out to Xilinx support about a list of issues that might or are known to cause this problem.

Hi @cobbp,

We are not sure what's causing that error. Since it's on a custom board we would suggest to check the power supplies and the routing of the USB data bus.
