JTAG-SMT3-NC USB connector

wcdecook

Question

Does the JTAG-SMT3-NC programmer come with a USB connector? There are a handful of charts across the Digilent documentation that say it does have an onboard USB connector. However, the images and the "-NC" part of the name indicate that it does not have a connector. Please advise and update the documentation, if applicable.

Hi @wcdecook,

I apologize for the delay.

The NC indeed stands for "No Connect" so there is no-onboard connector. The last sentence of the opening blurb in the Reference Manual, https://digilent.com/reference/programmers/jtag-smt3/reference-manual, tries to explain this a bit more:

Quote

The module routes the USB D+ (DP) and D- (DM) signals out to pads, providing the system designer with the ability to choose the type of USB connector and its location on the system board.

When routing and loading the USB connector elsewhere on the host system I would point you to the Routing Guidelines: https://digilent.com/reference/programmers/jtag-smt3/reference-manual#general_usb_signal_routing_guidelines.

I will fix that chart in the Reference Manual to make it more clear that the signal paths exist, but there is no actual physical connector (allowing the user to place the SMT module wherever on the board instead of being effectively forced to place it on the edge of the board for ease of connectivity).

Thanks,
JColvin
