Error codes in DAQami

Sam Harmon

Question

We need help trying to figure out the issues we are having on DAQami. We are using a TC-32 and during most of our tests we keep getting errors of -7777 or -6666. What do these errors mean? What can we do to avoid these errors? We seem to see them when things are starting to get heated during the test meaning over 500°C. We are using Type K thermocouples during the test.

Usually, when we see measurements that appear normal up to a point, the culprit is RF or EMF noise. When the battery blows, there probably is arcing inside, which throws immense noise. The TC-32 has a low pass filter, but the bandwidth is 22 Hz, which may be too high for your application.  I don't have a solution for this kind of trouble. I can suggest a different hardware setup if you let me know how many TCs are used.

I was hoping for fewer channels. The items I have in mind are sold by www.dataforth.com. They are signal-conditioning modules with isolation and filtering.  The 8B series is the least expensive. The 8B47K-14 has an input range of 0 - 1200 Degrees C and outputs a 0-5 volt signal. The modules can be mounted on a 16-channel backplane (8BP16-1) and wired to a DAQ, like the USB-2416. This device can be put into single-ended mode for 32 channels.
