Unable to connect Pmods to Arty Z7-20 - "board component cannot be connected because no possible options to connect"

Question

I am attempting to connect a Pmod to JA or JB of an Arty Z7-20. I tried manually updating the constraints file, and I don't seem to be getting data from the port. I then tried to use the Board tab in the block design to add JA. I get the error in the attached image if I try to add either of the Pmod ports. I am using Vivado 2022.1, and I believe I have the latest board files and constraint file.

How can I resolve this? Thanks!

Hi @rehsd,

If you are getting that error that is because the IP sources that are compatible with the Pmod connectors have not been pointed to in Vivado. There is a guide on how to do this for IPs here: https://digilent.com/reference/learn/programmable-logic/tutorials/pmod-ips/start#add_the_digilent_library_repository, though Pmod IPs are only supported through Vivado 2019.1.
Some Pmods IPs may work in later versions of Vivado if you manually constrain their pins to the Pmod ports, though the IP design flow that Digilent had been using does not play nicely in newer versions of Vivado.

A few (but not many) of the Pmods have been ported into a Hierarchical Block flow which is compatible with newer versions of Vivado; there is a guide on how to use this flow here: https://digilent.com/reference/programmable-logic/guides/hierarchical-blocks.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
JColvin
