BASYS3 Not Showing Welcome Message, Issue?

jschach

Question

I just turned on my BASYS3 board and everything in the initial power on test of the hardware seems to be fine however when I use a serial terminal to view the output on power on I don't see the welcome message as stated in the reference manual (see screenshot). However, I can see the "button press detected!" output when buttons are pressed. Could this indicate something is wrong with the board, or might this just be outdated documentation?

Thanks!

Hi @jschach,

I apologize for the delay.

It's been a bit since I've looked into the Basys 3 out-of-box demo, but my guess is that the serial terminal on the PC side simply isn't connecting and initializing the COM port fast enough before the Basys 3 finishes configuring it's hardware via flash memory. The serial/UART portion is working correctly as you can see the "button press detected" message.

Does pressing Button C or the red Prog button while keeping the micro USB attached to the Basys 3 not send the "Demo start" message or whatever it happens to say?

Thanks,
JColvin
