Nexys 4 DDR - Accelerometer

Hey guys,

I´m trying to get some data from the on-board accelerometer of my Nexys 4 DDR. I got this example code, but it´s a little bit confusing.

Is this really the only example? In case it is, here some questions:

If I understand aright, the MISO output of the slave/accelerometer is the only channel to send data from the slave to the master/Artix, so this must be the channel to send the acceleration data through?

How can I get access to the XDATA, YDATA, ... registers of the accelerometer?
