Illogical wave forms

wanders

Question

I'm pretty much a tech novice, so please bear with me. I recently acquired an AD2 for analyzing audio equipment. It worked fine for a couple of months, but recently haw started to display  illogical wave forms - whether input is from the AD2 wave generator or direct from the audio component. The easiest way to describe the problem is to refer to the video where the issue shows up.. There is a few second sequence at around 3:33 on the timer which shows a problem that I frequently encounter. Thanks in advance.

Hi @wanders

If I understand correctly you have: Wavegen -> DUT -> Scope 1

1. In order to test the Wavegen output, connect this to Scope input.
In case the signal is distorted the AD2 may be defect.

2. To visualize the Wavegen output while driving the DUT, connect the Wavegen with a splitter to Scope 2.
Wavegen -> Scope 2 | DUT -> Scope 1
2.a If the signal on Scope 2 is distorted probably Wavegen enters in limitation.
2.b If only Scope 1 is distorted the DUT is causing it.

The Wavegen outputs can drive at least 10mA or max 50mA, depending on voltage level.
On the BNC adapter you also have jumpers for 50 Ohm or zero ohm output. With 50 Ohms the signal will be attenuated proportional to the load.
