Arty Z7-20 digital input/output

Filip

Question

Hi - I'd like to ask your advice. I'd like to use Arty Z7-20 to generate trigger signal (for a microsecond turn 5V on and than turn it off again) and to listen to such trigger pulses generated by another device (I guess 5V as well). Which connectors on the board are suitable for that purpose? Do I need some GPIO modules? Thank you in advance.

Hi @Filip,

In the reference manual in section 16 Arduino/chipKIT Shield Connector here it states that the Arty Z7 is not compatible with shields that output 5V digital or analog signals. Driving pins on the Arty Z7 shield connector above 5V may cause damage to the Zynq. For the Pmod ports each 12-pin Pmod port provides two 3.3V VCC signals. The digital I/O for the Pmod ports and the Ardunio header is 3.3v as well.

You should be able to use something like the Pmod LVLSHFT to use 5 v Digital I/O.  You should be able the GPIO IP Core for the I/O.

thank you,

Jon
