Chipkit uC32, not installed on COM13 (Arduino IDE)

Rob_H

Question

Hello,

I'm using my Chipkit uC32 with an Arduino IDE and can't get the Arduino IDE to discover the uC32. I've tried using the uC32 on the latest Arduino IDE (1.8.5), and also a previous version (1.6.5). I can confirm the USB cable works. My Arduino sketch is blank, and it the bottom right hand corner states "Chipkit uC32, not installed on COM13". I have installed the Chipkit Core (2.0.5) from the Digilent website. I have the newest FTDI driver installed (2.12.28.0). I am using Windows 10. Below is the error message I get from the Arduino IDE. Any advice how I can get this up and running?

Hi Jon,

I get the following error after installing that Core:

image.thumb.png.8f1f6f66d23cde6cdfffdbca6864525d.png

"C:\Users\robhe\AppData\Local\Arduino15\packages\Digilent\tools\xc32-tools\xc32-1.43\bin\bin/xc32-ar.exe: unable to rename 'core\core.a'; reason: Permission denied

exit status 255
Error compiling for board chipKIT uC32."

I had previously downloaded the Digilent Core from the URL in this link:

https://blog.digilentinc.com/how-to-program-your-chipkit-board-in-the-arduino-ide/

I am also now on Arduino IDE 1.6.9 per the instructions.

I do not have an AVR ISP programmer.

The sketch simply won't compile. At least now the bottom right corner of the screen says "Chipkit uC32 on COM13" instead of "not installed". Any other ideas to try? Thanks.
