E-TC not connecting

DAV

Question

Hello,

About 2 months ago we bought one E-TC daq device and it works great, we installed the mccdaq software with InstaCal 6.74 and managed to configure it no problem, we also installed the Universal Library for Windows and managed to do our own programming in VB .Net and it works well.

Recently, we purchased 2 new devices, but we cannot get InstaCal to see them, we ping the default IP address 192.168.0.101 and there is no response.

Could you please help us with any suggestions? We use InstaCal v6.74 and it works fine with the first device that we bought.

Thank you so much and best regards,

If the E-TC is on a DHCP network, in InstaCal, press the plus icon (add board). Select the ENET tab and wait a few seconds for it to appear; then, you can add it to the board list. If you inadvertently set it to a bad IP address, reset it by holding down the reset button for 3-4 seconds until the LEDs blink.

The E-TC is not on a DHCP network, we check the ENET tab and it doesn't show up and we have tried the reset button many times, but still nothing. Thanks.

Hello @DAV.

Reset the new E-TC module as instructed in the E-TC User's Guide.

Next, connect the E-TC to the same network as your Windows system and connect the power supply to the E-TC.

Open a Command Prompt window and enter the command:  arp -a

If the E-TC's MAC address appears in the list with an IP address, then use that IP address to manually add the device to InstaCal.

If the E-TC MAC address does not appear in the list, then follow the next steps.

Determine the IPv4 Address of the Windows system, connected to the same network as the E-TC.

Using the Command Prompt window, enter the command:  ipconfig /all

Use its IPv4 address (i.e. aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd) in the following step.  (In my case, the device's IP address was 192.168.29.102.)

Using the Command Prompt window, enter the command:  for /L %N in (1,1,254) do @nslookup 192.168.29.%N >> names.txt

Next, open the names.txt file in that window's directory with Notepad or a text editor.

Search for E-TC in the names.txt file.

If the E-TC is detected on your network, then you should see the device listed with an address, as I show below from my system.

Name:    E-TC-23E139
Address:  192.168.29.102

Use that IP address to manually add the device in InstaCal.

If the E-TC device is not listed, then connect the E-TC directly to the Windows system, using a link local connection as instructed in the user's guide.

Resetting the device sets the default IPv4 address to 192.168.0.101.

Launch InstaCal and select the Add Board icon.  Next, select the ENET tab, set the Detection Type to Automatic, and press the Refresh button.

If the device is detected, then click the Add button.

With the E-TC showing in the PC Board List, double-click on the E-TC to open the Board Configuration window.  Select the Network Settings tab.  Set the Current Settings - Configure IPv4 address option to Static.  In the Default Settings - IPv4 address field, enter an available network IP address to statically assign to your device.  Click the OK button to close the configuration window.

If in the end, the E-TC device remains undetected, then please test the E-TC device with a different network.  Should the device continue to be undetectable, then it will need to be returned for testing/repairs.  Let us know if that is the case for your E-TC devices.

Fausto

Hello Fausto,

We have tried everything you sent us, but nothing seems to work, we cannot get any answer from the two devices. We also tried different software that finds IP Addresses on the network, to no avail.

Would it be possible to talk to someone on the phone? Otherwise, should we return these devices to the vendor or to you?

Thanks and best regards,

Hello @DAV

If the two E-TC devices were purchased through our distributor, please reach out to the distributor for a RMA; reference this forum post.
If the devices were purchased directly from Digilent, then send me a private message on this forum with your sales order/invoice information.

Regards,

Fausto
