Zybo Z7-10 boot options: does booting from SD card work on XC7Z010?

Hamed

Question

Hi,

I want to buy a  Zybo Z7-10 board an on page 12 Stage 2 of boot it is mentioned that this FPGA can boot from SD card, while I read on Zync technical datasheet "page 189 section 6.3.7 SD Card boot" that -10 chip cannot boot from SD card.

As booting from SD card is important for me, Which one I should trust?

Hi @Hamed

The Zybo Z7 uses a CLG400 part instead of a CLG225. The note in the TRM is referring to a different part with a package with less MIO pins (and pins in general) that doesn't include the physical connections required for SD card boot. The Zybo Z7-10 supports SD card boot through the process shown in this guide: https://digilent.com/reference/programmable-logic/guides/zynq-baremetal-boot.

Thanks!

Arthur
