USB 2.0 and 3.0 compatibility issues with Windows 10 vs Windows 7

Madeline

Question

Hello, I am having some issues with the Data Translations QuickDAQ from the DT9836 series. Have you received any feedback from other users about USB 2.0 and 3.0 compatibility issues with Windows 10 vs Windows 7? If so, can you share the resolution to those issues if one was found?

Hello @Madeline.

Is your issue with the QuickDAQ software or DT9836 device?  Please describe in detail your issue (include screen captures) and the system specifications.  Have you tested the combination with another Windows system?  Please run a Windows update and a separate update for the USB driver.  Are you connecting the DT9836 device directly to the system or via a USB hub?  If using a hub, try an externally powered hub.

Fausto

Hi @Fausto,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. As far as your questions go, here is the breakdown of the information I have.

"Is your issue with the QuickDAQ software or DT9836 device?" - The issue is with the .NET Library, not the QuickDAQ application.

"Please describe in detail your issue (include screen captures) and the system specifications." - We have observed that the following problem occurs only when connected to Windows 10 computers, it used to run fine on Windows 7. When the DAQ is connected to a USB 3.0 port on Windows 10 computers, it will crash after a certain period of time. In one instance, we started experiencing DAQ crashes when we were plugged into a USB 3.0 port on a Windows 10 PC. Then after switching to a USB 2.0 expansion card on that system, everything ran smoothly for 2 weeks and then the DAQ started crashing again. Then we switched back to the 3.0 port again and things ran smoothly.

"Have you tested the combination with another Windows system?" - We were originally running on Windows 7 when we first purchased the DAQs.

"Please run a Windows update and a separate update for the USB driver." - We can try this and get back to you.

"Are you connecting the DT9836 device directly to the system or via a USB hub?  If using a hub, try an externally powered hub." - We have already tried an externally powered hub and it did not solve the problem.

Hello @Madeline.

Thank you for the responses.  You appear to have an intermittent issue, but it is not clear whether you have an incompatibility issue with your target system, a DT9836 device issue or your .NET application needs to be updated for Windows 10.  Did you create a custom application with the DT-Open Layers for .Net library, while using Windows 7?  Does your target system have other applications/tasks running in the background utilizing system resources, while running your application?  If so, please disable those background applications.  What is the make/model and specifications of your Windows 10 system?  Have you performed a Windows update recently?  Please search for an updated USB 3.x driver from Microsoft and the motherboard vendor.  Have you tested your application and the DT9836 device with another Windows 10 system?

Regards,

Fausto
