Zedboard: Serial port disappears when running debugger (Vitis 2024.1)

Question

Hello,

I have setup Vivado and Vitis 2024.1 tools on a Linux Ubuntu machine. I am running the hello world example from the Digilent tutorial as a sanity check and have found that my serial port /dev/ttyUSB0 disappears (and disconnects picocom) when I run the Vitis debugger.

Everything else seems to work. I've installed the cable drivers from the Vivado directory as well as added my user to the 'dialout' group. Upon a clean boot/restart I see the USB uart in /dev/ttyUSB0 fine. I can open it with picocom fine too, but when I tell Vitis to run the debugger to print hello world out of the uart my serial port disappears and I no longer see /dev/ttyUSB0 or any other /dev/ttyUSBx serial ports. To recover I have to reboot my machine.

I am running Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS

All AMD/Xilinx tools are 2024.1

Has anyone else run across a disappearing uart like this? Any help is greatly appreciated!
