Question

I want to connect USB104A7-ZmodADC with digilent waveform but it is not listed in the device list. When I select  'my device is not listed' and then 'find devices' it detects the device but it doesn't programmed or work. While checking different options I programmed its dpti port and after that dpti port disappeared. Now USB104A7-ZmodADC demo program is not working and neither its is working with digilent waveform.

Thank for your kind reply, how do I get continuous data acquisition with these devices in LabVIEW any clue?

Hi @Aqeel,

To my understanding, the USB104 A7, nor any of Digilent's FPGA products, are not supported by NI's LabVIEW FPGA VIs.

If you wanted to get data from it into LabVIEW, you may be able to set up something where you have Vivado/Vitis send out the data of interest via UART to the serial port connected to the host PC and then have LabVIEW capture that data with NI VISA, but Digilent does not have any material to demonstrate this particular functionality.

Thanks,

Hi @attila

When I add DPTI port with the app you provided the JTAG port disappears, and when I program JTAG port the DPTI port disappears. Before frist disappearance of DPTI (after using Digilent Waveforms), I had both DPTI and JTAG ports shown in Adept.

Furthermore while it shows the JTAG in adept it also whos two devices in Step 2 of your provided app.

May be I am doing something wrong. Please provide guidance to recover the board status as I was before.

I need restore it to ex factory settings. When both JTAG and DPTI interface were visible in Adept.

Hi JColvin

Thanks for your support, I am about to implement the solution you provided. Kindly tell about the DIP switch settings during that process.

In Step 2, when I open the dropdown option I get following options:

1.jpeg.b5fddf474469034e6e97a389c4d46609.jpeg

The first option in your shared picture which have an option without channel letter is not shown in my shared picture. This may be because I mistakenly programmed that missing option with digilent waveform as shown below:

2.jpeg.44979009b298e29e949d1b927282d9bf.jpeg

In this scenario when I program any one (A or B) with DPTI, then I get following single option in step 2

3.jpeg.efa559ccb8b94ff5ccd59e9785b0b3be.jpeg

and when I program this single option with DJTG, I get options as shown in first picture

Hi @Aqeel,

You appear to have not followed the directions I provided.

Please configure the "Device A" option as DTJG as I instructed.

Ideally, upon restarting the application, you will then see a USB device that does not have the letter 'A' nor 'B' associated with it available in the dropdown menu of Step 2. That option is what would need to be configured as DPTI. If you choose a different option, it will not work.

Thanks,
JColvin

P.S. There is a chance that when you attempted to program the USB104 through WaveForms as something else entirely (such as the Analog Discovery Studio based on your screenshot), you may have corrupted your device in a way that cannot be fixed. Hopefully this is not the case, but I have not personally attempted to replicate this behavior on my own device.

As far I know with new driver devices can't be bricked.
The next WF version will only list USB devices which is used on AD1,2,3,ADS,DD to prevent such mistakes.

Hello,

Thank you for your concern. I have tried several times but, unable to restore the option 'without letter' and Adept could only show JTAG (which is functional) or DPTI (which is not functional).

I saw USB104A7 hardware reference guide (https://digilent.com/reference/programmable-logic/usb104a7/reference-manual) where in section "1.4. Platform MCU" it states in 5th paragraph:

"Note: Switches SW1/3 and SW1/4 are intended for restoration of and updates to the Platform MCU firmware and the USB Hub configuration. Please reach out to Digilent Support on the Programmable Logic section of the Digilent Forum in the event that your board needs to be reflashed. For normal operation, SW1/3 and SW1/4 should be left in the “NORM” and “HCFG” positions, respectively."

Also in Update firmware (https://digilent.com/reference/software/waveforms-live/update-firmware?srsltid=AfmBOoqZN7ZSkHqKkNO7AGe2l9TFGuxA4iDVtYM-te-OFR18fYcjtgeG) they show some process of update the firmware, I am not sure how does that happen.

If any of these is the solution then kindly guide me about the process for that.

Thank your for your time

Hi @Aqeel,

WaveForms Live is a legacy product from many years ago and was retired before the USB104 A7 was ever produced; I guarantee it will not be of any help here.

I will ask about the Platform MCU option, though when I was originally talking to the design engineer about the USB104 A7, they did not mention any special hub reconfiguration, but I will check.

Thanks,
JColvin

When you connect the USB104 A7 to your computer via USB, what do you see in the Device Manager?

For reference, this is what I see; 1 associated COM port and 3 different USB Serial Converters:

Thanks,

Hi @Aqeel,

I received confirmation from the design engineer that you should not mess with any of the switches and that they should be left in their default positions (be sure to only change these switch settings while the power is disconnected from power):

Switch 1: QSPI side (can be moved to JTAG side if you don't want to load the design inside the flash memory on start up)
Switch 2: 1.5 V (the default DDR voltage setting)

Switch 3: "NORM" (leave on NORM side)
Switch 4: "HCFG" (leave on the hardware configuration side)

If any of your switch positions do not match what I described above, please disconnect power from your board and then make those changes before powering the board on again.

Additionally, once the board is powered on, could you let me know if you can see that single channel FTDI chip via FTProg? I have attached the version the design engineer provided me to this message, though you can also download the application from FTDI here: https://ftdichip.com/utilities/.
I strongly recommend to not attempt to make any changes to the USB104 A7 through FTProg; misusing FTProg has been the reason hundreds of customers have come to the Digilent Forum looking to get their FPGA recognized and functional again.

Thanks,
JColvin

Hello,

Thanks for support, I ran the FTProg that you provided and I didn't attempt to program the device through it. I only scanned the device and it shows following details:

Hi,

One more thing I want to tell that as I mentioned earlier that I mistakenly programmed my usb104a7 with digilent waveform now in the device manager it shows digilent analog discovery studio with yellow warning mark on it as shown in this picture

image.png.8f9f92da7ad32fed7ddd2270832a28b5.png

Please tell me how can I fix this.

Hi @Aqeel,

Seeing the "Digilent Analog Discovery Studio" now appear in the Windows Device Manager when it was not previously present (as per your post here) is interesting, and potentially something we can work with.

Does the "Digilent Analog Discovery Studio" now show up in the application I sent you?

If not, and presuming you do not have an actual Analog Discovery Studio connected, you could try right clicking on that entry and choosing to Uninstall the device from the Windows Device Manager, then disconnecting the USB104 A7 from the computer, then reconnecting it again to see how it appears in the Windows Device manager.

Thanks,
JColvin

Hi

Thanks for reply, the previous post in which the ananlog discovery was not show was a different computer. Now I uninstalled the analog discovery from device manager but after disconnecting and connecting the card again to the computer it comes again in the device manager.

Hi @JColvin

This is what I see in FTProg you sent me:

FTProgDisplay.PNG.52a7fd4ea59c91dc7b3ab3151771f808.PNG

The Device 0 FT EEPROM Chip Type is FT232H

The Device 1 FT EEPROM Chip Type is FT2232H

The Flash ROM Tab show three items in Device: as shown below:

3interfaces.png.fd5b107d378a2a95bf1d000a2201a56b.png

The Digilent Waveform shows the "DiscoveryStudio" with USB connection but upon pressing "Select" button  it gives following error.

waveformdiscoverystudio.PNG.8a91759f4b74f5151f732c234ab5fb79.PNG

would you please guide me how could I fix the problem
