MCC USB-2404-UI Device driver software was not successfully installed Windows 7

Charles Dickson

Question

Hi, I am trying to communicate with a USB-2404-UI device over USB on a Windows 7 64 bit system.  I downloaded and ran icalsetup.exe from https://www.mccdaq.com/Software-Downloads.  When I plug in my USB-2404-UI USB cable, Windows attempts a Driver Software Installation which returns with a status message of "Device driver software was not successfully installed" for something called "USB Carrier".  Is there something missing from my installation?  I know that this is at this point an old OS, but it is supposedly supported per here: https://digilent.com/reference/software/instacal/start  Any hints or tips greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hello @Charles Dickson.

Please verify the target system has the last available Service Pack for Windows 7 from Microsoft.

Which version of InstaCal did you install on the target system?

Please reply with screen captures of any errors.

Test your USB-2404-UI with an older version of InstaCal as mentioned in the post below.

Alternatively, test your USB-2404-UI with the current version of InstaCal and Windows 11.

Regards,

Fausto

Hi @Fausto

Thank you for the rapid answer.  I tried it out the day that you replied and the older version of InstaCal worked flawlessly.  My system is now up and running!

Windows Update seemed to think that my version of Windows 7 was at the most recent SP.

Originally I had installed the most current version of InstaCal (I think it was 6.74) from your downloads server.  When I plugged the USB cable from the USB-2404-UI after installation, I would get the message box in the attached image saying that the "USB Carrier" driver failed to load.  Windows didn't seem inclined to give me any further details.

However there was one other thing.  When I first did the install of 6.74, I got a dialog complaining about an unsigned driver.  It isn't clear if this prevented that driver from being installed.  And it was also odd because I only got it on the first install.  I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling 6.74 a couple of times and didn't get this warning the other times.  Please see the second attachment for that dialog.

I hope the attached screen shots help you in some way.  In my case, using InstaCal 6.55 fixed everything, so I'm good to go.

Thanks, Charles Dickson
