WaveBook/512 and WaveView

UserDAQ

Question

Our company currently owns a WaveBook/512 from IOtech that we want to use to acquisition data from 4 proximity switches. However, the "To Computer" port is a parallel port. Our Windows 10 computers do not have such ports. We bought a LPT to USB 2.0 adapter (IEEE 1284) but we can't seem to get the connection going. Also, when using the DaqXCPL to add a device, there is no option for the 512, only the 516. Any support would be greatly appreciated.

Hello @UserDAQ.

Third-party USB-to-Parallel port adapters do not work with WaveBooks and DaqBooks. Those port adapters are designed to support only enough parallel port registers to allow the Window's Printer Port driver to run. Devices like the parallel port controlled WaveBook and DaqBook have a complex driver that takes advantage of the full parallel port specification. Because of the additional demand, the adapters do not work and this holds true for most PCI-to-Parallel (and PCMCIA-to-Parallel) port cards as well.
