Would the Waveshare UPS Hat be compatible with the MCC128?

keshmaster81

Question

Here's the link to the product page: https://www.waveshare.com/wiki/UPS_HAT_(B).

The hat connects via the pogo pins using the I2C interface. I know that in the documentation for the daq hat it mentions all hats generally being incompatible but specifically mentions displays such as LCDs being incompatible because of there use of the SPI interface. Would I2C be fine? My daq hats work normally without I2C enabled in my raspberry pi configuration.

Hello @keshmaster81.

The MCC 128 does use the I2C to read the EEPROM, pins 27 and 28 (ID_SD and ID_SC, respectively) on the RPi 40-pin header.

MCC 128 Electrical Specifications

The Waveshare UPS HAT (B) uses pins 3 and 5 (SDA and SCL, respectively) on the RPi 40-pin header.

You may need to change the address jumper on the MCC 128 which will change the base address of the EEPROM on the ID bus, if the RPi cannot read the EEPROM.  Besides that, it appears that both boards may be compatible.

Regards,

Fausto
