Superlogics 8017Z gives communication error but Comms test passes

Hello,  I need soem help settting up a suplerlogics 8017z module using a 8520-U USB adapter.  I can setup the module in dasylab but when i run the worksheet the inptu cards don't start showing any data blocks on the icon and I eventually get a communication error.  

What are the steps for setting ujp the communications to this card.  note that it is a 8017Z model and the dasylab only has a 8017 module.  Superlogics says they should both work.

According to the Superlogics documentation, the 8017 module is factory set to 9600 baud, 1 start bit, 1 stop bit, and no parity. The problem could be that your computer's serial port is not configured properly. Use the Device Manager->Ports and ensure COM5 is the correct port and is configured properly. Please contact SuperLogics for additional help with configuration.
