New Analog Discovery 3 - Error on Waveforms Startup - Analog CIrcuit of the Device is turned off. CDCE Not Locked. PLL Not Locked

Setup: 
Dell Laptop running Ubuntu 22.04 (but also tested this on a windows 11 laptop)
Analog Discovery 3

Waveforms beta 3.22.10

 

Issue:
After connecting the AD3 to external power supply and connecting it the usb to my laptop and then opening waveforms, I get the below error. I noticed if I unplug the external power supply and solely use the usb power supply and then startup waveforms again, I don't have this error. This functionality does not seem correct. I will look for another power supply but this one is also brand new so I dont think it would be the issue.

The device needs at least 3W/600mA. To satisfy this:

- Try using a different USB cable and computer plug.

- Use the USB plug on the back of the computer, avoid the ones on the front.

- Use short cable, do not use long cable or extension cable.

- Use powered USB-hub, avoid un-powered hub.

- Use 5V auxiliary power supply.

Hi @chris.h

The AUX input has under/overvoltage protection.
I get the same error if I try to supply the AD3 with almost 5.5V

Hey @attila, thank you for confirming.

 

I noticed that if I first power up using usb and open waveforms it will power up correctly. Then if I plug in the aux power with it already powered via usb, it will draw current from the aux power with no issues. So it seems it’s able to use the aux power after initially being powered up using usb.

Hi @chris.h

It is possible the power supply overcompensates the inrush current during powerup, causing a voltage spike that exceeds the allowed upper threshold of the device.
