BTH-1208LS Bluetooth Pairing Issue

ChrisJ

Question

Board: BTH-1208LS-OEM, Factory Ser. No.: 1C2C772, Main firmware version: 1.10, Radio firmware version: 6.15

The board will no longer go into pairing mode when the button is pressed for >5 seconds.

The device is powered by batteries and not connected via a USB host.

The status and power LEDs do not both start flashing as they should do when pairing. Instead, the power (top) LED comes on continuously and the status LED remains off.

The board works fine if connected to the PC via USB – collects data etc in InstaCal and TracerDaq.

We have a similar board with the same firmware versions that continues to work fine. They have the same Bluetooth Settings as displayed in InstaCal.

Do you have any suggestions? I am wondering whether doing a factory reset on the RN42 Bluetooth module might help, or would that not be advisable?

Many thanks

Hello,

I cannot recommend performing a factory reset on the Bluetooth module. The BTH-1208LS is not serviceable, so if the batteries are fresh and it fails to connect, it can be used as a USB device, or you could purchase a replacement.

Best regards,
John

But unfortunately the BTH-1208LS-OEM is no longer available. Also, the application is as an ambulatory device so tethering with a USB cable is not an option.

Could you please explain why a factory reset on the Bluetooth module isn't recommended?

It sounds like there might be an issue with the Bluetooth module on the BTH-1208LS board. A factory reset on the RN42 Bluetooth module may help, but it's important to note that this could potentially erase any custom settings or configurations that have been applied to the module.

Before proceeding with a factory reset, you could try the following steps:

Ensure that the batteries are fully charged and inserted correctly.

Verify that the button is functioning correctly and is not stuck or damaged.

Attempt to pair the device with a different Bluetooth host device to see if the issue is isolated to a specific host.

Try resetting the board by disconnecting the power source, waiting for a few minutes, and then reconnecting it.

If none of these steps work, then a factory reset on the RN42 Bluetooth module may be necessary. To do this, you will need to enter command mode by sending the command "$$$" over the serial interface. Once in command mode, enter the command "factory R,1" to perform a factory reset.

After the reset, you will need to reconfigure the module with the appropriate settings for your application. You can refer to the RN42 Bluetooth module datasheet for more information on configuring the module.

best regards
