Poornima Shetty
Hi, We are planning to buy digilent HS3 Jtag programmer. When we come across the datasheet of the programmer, it says SPI is not supported. We have MT25QL128ABA8E12-0SIT, Micron NOR SPI Flash as flash programming device interfaced to Artix7 FPGA. with JTAG-HS3-Rev. A, we will be able to program this SPI flash? or we will be able to program only the FPGA ? Regards, Poornima Shetty
0 JColvin
Hi @Poornima Shetty, I presume you are referring specifically to this section of the reference manual: https://digilent.com/reference/programmers/jtag-hs3/reference-manual#programming_solutions_comparison_chart. I asked another engineer more familiar with the JTAG Programmers about this and they clarified that the "x" on the SPI compatibility is indicating that the JTAG HS3 is not able to use the DSPI API from Digilent's Adept software to directly read and write to SPI devices. You can still configure SPI flash devices through JTAG via the Vivado Hardware Manager while using the JTAG HS3, including the Micron Flash you mentioned (or at least I presume it is in Xilinx's list of list of "Select third-party SPI Proms" as per here: https://digilent.com/reference/programmers/jtag-hs3/reference-manual#supported_target_devices). So, to directly answer your question, yes you can configure both the flash memory and the FPGA with the JTAG HS3 through the Xilinx software. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, JColvin Poornima Shetty
