ChrisFishbowl Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 Yesterday my JTAG-HS3 started to get extremely hot in about 5 seconds after connecting it to USB. It has worked fine for months. After cutting off the shrink wrap it looks like the part LEG #PZ is getting hot. Any ideas as to why? Thanks.
JColvin Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 Hi @ChrisFishbowl, I apologize for the delay. Unfortunately, it sounds like that particular IC got burned out. As you noticed, all of these components are surface mount and tightly packed together, so a repair would be difficult to perform (in addition to not knowing if other components are damaged besides the one getting hot), but let me know if you want to pursue that route. Thanks, JColvin
ChrisFishbowl Posted October 4, 2019 Author Posted October 4, 2019 I appreciate you reaching out @JColvin! Would you be able to give me the part or part number so I can order it from somewhere? The part says, "LEG #PZ" Thanks, Chris
JColvin Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 Hi @ChrisFishbowl, The part is a linear regulator. Specifically it is ADP123AUJZ-R7 in a 5 lead TSOT package. Thanks, JColvin
daq Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 I have the same problem! I've gone through two HS3 device in a year! What suddenly burns out these devices when they run fine for months?
