[USB-231 noise on additional channels]

We have a USB-231 that has a single input attached to channel 0 in SE mode. The input is outputting 0-5V, so the reading is somewhere from 32000-48000, normally (since this device supports -10 to +10V).

We notice that when trying to read the other 7 channels, there seems to be noise on the next 3 channels that elevate the reading above 0V pretty significantly. We are going to test connecting those empty channels to ground, but I was wondering if there is a configuration with pull-down resistors like on some of the other Digital I/O devices? If not, I suspect manually connecting these channels to ground is the way to go to ensure they get the 0V expected.

Also, is it possible to force the configuration to the expected voltage range when using cbAIn. The board specifies -10V to +10V, but is that a maximum suggesting and we can set it to 0 to +5V instead?

[USB-QUAD08]

I have a client's system that is using a USB-QUAD08 that is suddenly getting an error message in Windows:

Power Surge on Hub Port

The USB-Quad08 has malfunctioned and exceeded the power limits of its hub port. You should disconnect the device.

Recommendation: To reenable the port, disconnect the hardware and click Reset. If you click Close, the port will no longer function.

 

We followed the instructions of the window and the problem went away for a bit. A couple of hours later we had to same error.

Is this possibly a problem with the QUAD08? Or the PC / USB ports?

This is a 10 year old Dell Precision 3600 PC connected to the USB-QUAD08.

It looks like if we use CBCIn32, there isn't an additional parameter to specify... so I think it all seems like it should work.

I checked on the cable again, and they actually are the same pin-out. Just the Quad08 pin-out is a zero-based reference and the Quad04 pin-out is 1-based.

Thank you for your response. If we used an adapter cable to change the pinout to what we would expect... then is there anything else that needs to be done to use the 37-pin cable instead of the screw terminals?

If one of our customers needs to replace a PCI-Quad-04 with a Quad-08 - can they simply move the 37-pin cable from the Quad04 to the J12 connector on the Quad-08? Assume the software using the devices has been changed to recognize the Quad-08 and the InstaCal board number for the Quad-08 has also been updated.

We normally send out a QUAD-08 using the screw terminals for channels 1-4 connected to an adapter cable. But one of our customers is changing to a PC without a PCI slot for his existing Quad-04. To simplify the swap-in/upgrade, he wants to know if he can use his previous Quad-04 cable, and if there is any extra configuration to make this work.
